USDA raises 2026 red meat, poultry production outlooks

The USDA has increased its expectations for 2026 red meat and poultry production. Beef is seen at 25.735 billion pounds, 10 million above December due to heavier dressed weights, with an average steer price of $236 per hundredweight, up $1, with lower exports against higher imports and per capita consumption. Quarterly grain stocks mostly above a year ago

The USDA says grain stocks on December 1st were mostly larger than the year before. Corn stocks came out at 13.282 billion bushels, rising 10% on the year, partially due to record 2025 production, canceling out the stronger implied first quarter usage. Cash dairy prices steady-to-lower Monday

Cash dairy prices were steady-to-lower Monday at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.    Dry whey remained unchanged since last Thursday at 0.70. No sales were recorded.  Forty-pound cheese blocks were down $0.0325 at $1.2825.  Three sales were recorded, ranging from $1.2825 to $1.2875.  Cheese barrels were down $0.04 at 1.36.  No sales were recorded.    Butter prices were unchanged at 1.30.  No sales were recorded.  After some gains last week, nonfat dry milk was down $0.0050 at 1.26. Four sales were recorded at that price.  The post Cash dairy prices steady-to-lower Monday appeared first on Brownfield Ag News. U.S. winter wheat acreage slightly lower than last year

The USDA says farmers planted 32.990 million acres of winter wheat for the 2026 crop.
